2020-2021 COVID operational updates

September 10 Update

Welcome back to hockey!
As we prepare to hit the ice for the first time we want to provide a few additional updates for the return. As we said prior there will be ongoing changes. The number one question we have been getting is around cohorts and what that means for you.

The government of Alberta has for the last few months encouraged you to have small cohort groups. Their definition of cohort has been a bubble, circle or safe squad of the same people that do not always keep 2 meters apart. They have laid out some guidelines for how to expand beyond your original core cohorts. With the relaunch of school and sports you will find your child now belonging to several cohorts. The recommendation now regarding sports cohorts is that you belong to limited numbers.

For the purpose of VDMHA minor hockey once teams are set and you are playing some transition games or regional pod games we will consider that your cohort and ask you only be part of one and comply with the 14 day period between different cohort activities.

Prior to team selection we have instructed our coaches to do their best to follow suggested physical distanced practices on ice. We have limited the time in dressing rooms, closed showers and eliminated parents in the dressing rooms to allow for physical distancing. All people entering the building must preform the COVID 19 self-check daily test and entry to the facility is considered your acknowledgement that you passed the test.We will paste the test at the bottom of this email for reference.

We recommend the use of skate guards if your child requires help with skates as you only have 15 minutes access in prior to posted ice time however if they need assistance they can come to the outside bleacher and we ask parents to wear a mask when assisting them and maintain physical distance from other players.

Hockey Alberta does not have a requirement for associations to follow individual players cohorts outside those set up by the association itself. Parents will have to use their discretion when expanding their cohorts and deciding on limits. VDMHA HIGHLY ENCOURAGES participants to accept the Hockey Alberta and the Government of Alberta guideline to limited cohorts. At this time we also HIGHLY ENCOURAGE the use of mask when players are not engaged in high physical activity.

Following the first two days of start up we will provide another update and adjustments may need to be made. Our goal is to provide some sense of normality for the kids while keeping the health and safety of all users as priority 1.
